ICGB centenary week at Wimbledon - August 2024

Team selected:   Fergus O’Connell (C), James Cluskey, Stewart Doyle, Tom Hamilton, Julie Byrne, Dearbhla Kelly, Conor McCullough (NPC)

We sent a strong team to represent us at the ICGB’s centenary celebrations which were played at the All England Club over a week in August. There were some very notable wins by Julie Byrne and Tom Hamilton in singles and Dearbhla and Julie in doubles. The mens team was seeded 5, played a very tough Danish team on day 1, losing 5-1, but rallied back to beat a combined South American team 4-0, Croatia 4-0 and signed off in their final match of the plate, losing to Belgium 3-1. 

The ladies beat South Africa 2-1 with a dramatic 3rd set tie break win and then played a very competitive Italian team, going down 2-0.

Fergus presented the ICGB with a framed aerial shot of Fitzwilliam LTC, which was very well received and now hangs proudly at Edgbaston LTC.
