The majority of the IC Monaco team arrived on time in Dublin arirport where they were welcomed by Conor McCullough, Joe Hackett, Pat Guiry (all whom kindly offered their services) and myself, we managed to get the team back to their hotel in town, the Alexander Hotel and then after a brief set down and recharging pint in the Ginger Man we set off by car and taxi to John and Liz O’Rourke house. The hospitality Jimmy and the atmosphere was excellent for all those who attended. Bryan as President welcomed our guests after a brief welcome intro from John. Dave Miley and Declan Heavey also attended. Next day die to the poor weather forecast we brought the opening matches forward to 9.30am and by lunchtime Ireland held an unassailable lead of 7-2. Monaco had Denise Hugard among their ranks who is a silver medallist at this year’s ITF World Team Championships and is currently ranked 28 in the world over 65. (highest #11). They won the afternoon session 4-2 after a very nice and chatty lunch. Some of the older players went into town and many thanks to Joe Hackett who volunteered to drive them into town The evening dinner was excellent, we had 41 for dinner, all the speeches went well I think. Bryan spoke very well and in great detail on Francis Trucchi’s tennis and admin career when he announced Francis’ honorary membership of our club. Yves responded by offering me Monaco membership which I am very pleased to have. Yves, Federico, Romain, Anne-Laure, Laure-Ann, Daniela and myself went down to House and Neil W and Donna dropped in later for what was a great night. John O’R, Barry, Joe, Tony and myself met the team and dropped them to the airport on the Sunday For your guide, Yves has expressed an interest to continue a bi-annual fixture as per his thank you email yesterday. (see below). I for one, would be in agreement for a bi-annual fixture but I would suggest earlier into the summer months and maybe next time on grass at Carrickmines or Elm Park, though Fitzwilliam is nearly always available to the IC. Thank you for selecting me as captain for this fixture which had been postponed from last year, it is a great privilege to have been given honorary membership of the IC of Monaco and I will remember it for many years to come. (There are other photos which other on the team took so hopefully they will share) Regards Niall Back in Monaco, back to work … Just a brief email to thank you sincerely for your amazing hospitality at the weekend. You were a wonderful host and the Monaco's players are extremely grateful to you and all your members, We really appreciated your kindness in taking care of us and making sure we were feeling good. You made us feel like at home (and not only at "House" !!!). Again thank you very much for a magnificent weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the future - I think we will plan to organize another fixture with the Irish IC in Monaco within two years. Best wishes.
