August 2019 IC Ireland Vs IC GB Friday the 19thJuly saw the arrival of the IC of GB team to Dublin captained by Peter Hannon. Festivities began with a Welcome dinner in The Gables restaurant in Foxrock for the visiting team and their supporters club! The fun we had that evening set the tone for what was to become a super weekend of tennis and socialising. Matches commenced the following morning in Carrickmines LTC at 11am and we were blessed with both the stunning club facilities and the dry weather! It is fair to say the IC of Ireland had a very strong team (see players and match results herewith)with in particular our ‘young guns’ James Cluskey and Ciaran Fitzgerald seeing off the opposition in convincing form. 1 of these matches was against our very own Morgan Dunne who agreed kindly to a 1-day loan transfer to ICGB! Much appreciated Morgan… Though the day saw an overall win for IC of Ireland 10 -5, 5 of these matches went to deciding championship tie-breaks 4 of which were in the final mixed doubles matches which proved very exciting viewing for the spectators and supporters club. As non-playing Captain I feel both teams deserve great credit for playing 3 competitive matches in a 5 hour time-frame….not easy! A big shout out to our super subs Victor Drummy, Conor McCullough and Gillian Chandler who waited in the wings on the day for a call-up. Post match celebrations took place at my house around the corner where we were blessed again with 2 things…..dry weather and wonderful caterers! (The Food Shop in Mt Merrion). In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Carrickmines LTC for being so wonderfully hospitable and generous with their time and facilities. In particular thanks to Pat Crowe, Neil Buckley, John Doyle and all the catering and bar staff at the club. Neil dedicated himself on the day to making sure that all was in order for us all to have a stress free day at the club and for that we are truly thankful.
