August 2016 IC of Ireland Newsletter: July 2016 IC Ireland Newsletter of July 2016 A note from the President. Dear members, I was honoured to be elected by you as President of the IC of Ireland at the recent AGM and will work earnestly on your behalf during my term of office. There are a number of changes to committee this year as follows : Bryan Smyth, President Joe Cummiskey, Treasurer Jimmy McDonogh, Captain Tom Barry, Secretary Michelle Bennett Barry King. In the following pages we cover all the latest news including : - IC members day, 17th September 2016 - Match updates (a) Potter Cup 2016 and (b) IC of Great Britain - Subscriptions from 2017 - Changing your Standing Order Thank you for your support of the IC of Ireland. Bryan Smyth Members Day, 17th September A reminder that we will hold an afternoon of tennis followed by dinner and drinks at Elm Park tennis club on September 17th. Partners welcome for the dinner. Thanks to all who have already responded with an interest in attending. For others, please text or email Jimmy McDonogh (087 9592273 mcdonoghjimmy@gmail.com) or Michelle Bennett (087 2642914 michelle.bennett6@gmail.com) if you want to be added to the attendance list. I would encourage as many members as possible to participate in this event. Elm Park are very kindly keeping their grass courts open for us and it promises to be a great day of tennis and entertainment in truly wonderful surroundings. We hope to facilitate further tennis events going forward. Match Updates Potter Cup Ireland sent a team to participate in the 2016 Cup having missed the 2015 event. With Garbhan O’Nuallain as captain and Owen Casey leading the team, we beat the Spain 2nd team and had 4 individual match wins. Full details at end of season. IC Versus Great Britain This match was played last weekend, July 16th, in London and a team of 10 captained by Tom Barry with John Doran leading the line competed against a strong GB team. We lost the fixture 12-3 which didn’t reflect the highly competitive matches. As usual Peter Hannon, now with GB and a former Ireland Davis Cup player, hosted a wonderful event. Some photos are attached. Subscription from 2017 At the recent AGM members voted to increase the annual subscription from 1st January 2017. This was the first increase since the foundation of the IC of Ireland in 1997 and is in recognition of increased costs and the larger number of events being played. Subs will rise to Euro 75 or £60 per annum. Each member should change their standing order in coming weeks. Below we provide easy instructions on how to change the Standing Order – and please remember to tell us when you have done this as we will have no other way of verifying it has been completed. Changing your Standing Order On the next page there are instructions from Joe Cummiskey on how to change your standing order.
