COMPASS IC EUROPEAN JUNIOR CHALLENGE ENDED AT ALBINEA TENNIS CLUB

ITALY - SPAIN 4 - 3. WHAT A SHOW AT ALBINEA!

ITALIANS AT THE 1ST POSITION IN EUROPE WITH A PASS TO WIMBLEDON

DECISIVE BEATRICE TORELLI FOR ITALIAN FINAL VICTORY

Italia did it well. There was a mountain (called Spain) to climb in order to
reach the highest step of the podium at Compass European Junior Challenge
competition; there was hard obstacle to overcome, like Pedro Martinez and
hot team mate Jorge Lopez. Will, determination and some luck was needed to
compete until the end with such strongest opponents. Today Italian Team of
Coach Tenconi infamed team values and collected every small opportunity
Spain offered. Only a final, terrible, match tie break, played by the mixed
double decided the victory of Italy. A final match without a second chance,
played by the best players of both teams, at a distance of 10 points. The
score was 9-7 when the referee got down his highchair and said Spanish drive
was out. And the party started everywhere with lengthy applause to coach
Tenconi and all the players. Beatrice Torelli, grown at Albinea Tennis, now
playing with Sporting Sassuolo, was decisive for the final victory. Entering
the semifinals because of Federica Mordegan's injury, Beatrice always won,
both in single and double matches. Before the decisive mixed double match,
the result was 3 all. Beatrice Torelli e Bianca Turati, the girls, won
single and double matches, while Corrado Summaria and Giovanni Fonio, the
boys, could do nothing against the strongest Spanish team. One of the nicest
thing of European Junior Challenge is the ability of joining boys and girls
in order to create a competitive team. This was the final classification of
Compass European Junior Challenge: Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Sweden,
Ireland, Luxembourg, Austria and Russia. On tennis courts and during
collateral activities culture and fairplay of the athletes was a constant of
the whole event. The most liked initiatives were the visit to Ferrari Museum
at Maranello and the visit to La Razza Cheese Farm, producing Parmigiano
Reggiano, Albinea Summer Party and the Wolcome BBQ at Trattoria Marrucci.
